New Zealand has a persistent problem with child poverty and its intergenerational consequences. Intergenerational disadvantage plays out in a number of ways, including through physical and mental health and behavioral impacts. However, investment in children in their early years can greatly improve their lifelong outcomes and can create a significant return on investment.
