Localism Guide (2024)

FrankAdvice supported Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) to create Localism: A practical guide, launched at the SuperLocal Conference in 2024.

It’s an innovative, useful and easy-to-read guide that sets out exactly how local governments can put localism into practice. The Guide offers a comprehensive menu of 17 different tools to implement localist approaches, from which councils can choose an approach that suits their council, community or specific situation.

The tools range from easy to complex and cover a wide variety of situations. The Guide explains why and how to use each tool, sets out the key steps, and is brought to life by New Zealand and international case studies.

FrankAdvice worked alongside the LGNZ team to research a variety of localist approaches, identify useful and interesting case studies, and write about each tool in an engaging and accessible way – to make it easy for users to dip in and out of the Guide and adapt tools to suit their goals.
